A day at the ballpark...

It was supposed to be our local dental society's summer day at the ball park... but we really didn't see any dental folks!  Oh well, it was a beautiful day, and Nick & I plus my employees and their families headed to AT&T park to see the SF Giants take on the Cincinnati Reds.

It was bobblehead day!  Nick and I left the rest of the crew to wait in the looooong line to go in the front gate and get a bobblehead.   Well, two of the same bobblehead.  Of a guy we don't know (from their 2002 team).  It's still cool, ok?!

Our seats were up high but it was a nice view of both the park and the bay.  We actually took the ferry over, instead of driving.  It took a while, but was really easy and kind of fun!

Nick actually had legit Giants gear!  I wore a black shirt and a Stanford hoodie. Not quite, C.
This is us after hot dogs, nachos, and garlic fries.
The best parts of a baseball game!

My iPhone's flash couldn't handle the backlight, but that's my office!

Unfortunately, the Giants didn't look great today and they lost 2-1.  Nancy's husband said he's been to 12 Giants games in his life and never seen them win!  The streak wasn't broken today!  Oh well, we still get to say to #57:  Go to a Giants game... CHECK!

What's your favorite part of a baseball game??

Goofy check

After my wedding, I had a bunch of matching frames that we had used for table numbers.  They were cute little 5x7 frames, so I emptied them out, set them next to my bed and planned to print out pictures.

I got married over two years ago.  Until two weeks ago, the frames were still empty.  And still sitting next to my bed.

However!  Looking to check off some things on my list, I saw #95 and sat down to print out some pictures.  (And I also changed the photos in our living room -- that were last updated in 2006.  That was a long time ago.)

So, here's an "after" photo:
It looks like every other normal night stand in America now!
Want a zoom in of the pics on my side?

Who can identify the location of those shots??

Two successes in one night!

The first things I put on my list of 101 were cooking goals.  Things that I like to eat but either can't get easily or don't like the super calories that are in them.  One thing I can't get in Sonoma is Japanese food -- and coming from San Francisco, gosh that's killer!

Take two:  Miso soup.  My first try was... not so hot.  Actually, it was TOO hot (harhar) because I over cooked the miso paste which ruined the soup.  So this time, I bought the wakame (seaweed) and tried again.

Wakame - it looks like tea leaves, add lukewarm water and voila! Hydrated, yummy, chewy green stuff!

Oh lame, the iPhone camera didn't turn out well!  Well, trust me, this was SO much better than the first time! The miso did the awesome... settling thing... that miso does and the green stuff was perfect.  I didn't have the right broth -- dashi -- so it still wasn't 100%, but close enough to get a CHECK on #8!

Next up:  Sushi!  We went to a fish market in Napa and got tuna, albacore, and cobia (we hadn't heard of that one, but it looked reasonable!), we also picked up some crab meat and avocado.

We wanted to make some rolls.  Good ol' Whole Foods had nori wrappers.
Edible Ocean Plant -- sounds... yummy?

Squishing the rice on to the nori on the bamboo roller.
It was harder to spread than I expected!
We didn't get to soak the rice for an hour, as suggested.  Do you think that mattered?

Our Nigiri
Look at those knife cuts!  Good work, honey!

The finished result!  Look at all those rolls - inside AND outside rice! Nigiri, sashimi!  We're so fancy!

We've got some areas of improvement for next time, but definitely a resounding CHECK on #7!

What's your favorite sushi roll?  Anyone want to come over and make some more??

Food again

I know, I know - food posts are boring.  And I also know that most of my sisters think I eat really weird things.  Well, I'm almost through the 10 new things I had listed as a goal, so these are almost done!

After our 10K race this morning, Nick and I cleaned up and headed back to the Plaza for their benefit for the local community center.

Roast, corn, beans, roll, beer, live music, beautiful weather.  Only problem, poor Nick had to head right to work (and no, didn't drink the beer!), but it was a really nice Sunday.

So the food.  What animal do you think it is?  I'll give you a clue.

No?  Is this before your time?

Dun, dun dun.... it's ox!  (Explanation for the random picture, I asked Nick "What type of animal is an ox exactly?  Like a cow?" -- brilliant question, I know -- and he said "No, it's its own animal, like on Oregon Trail.")  I guess ... I have never seen one?  I don't know.  I don't have much to say about oxen.  But now I've eaten one, it tasted like tri-tip steak and was fine.  Not necessarily something I'd need to repeat any time soon.

Did you know an ox was a real animal?  Have you ever seen one??
